Dear subscribers!

The other day I came across a simple word I could not recognise. It was possible to guess its meaning right from context but I could not confirm that with any of my standard dictionaries. The word is "to chope". Upon some investigation, it turned out to be that in Singlish to chope means to reserve or book something, which is consistent with my initial guess. Now, let's construct a couple of sentences with this word to better remember it. .

  1. 1. Let's chope the table by leaving a pack of tissues there.
  2. 2. Tissue paper is indispensable for you - you wipe your mouth after a meal with it, the sweat off your brow after biting into chilli padi, but most importantly chope seats with it.

The new question for many of you would then be that of what is Singlish? The answer is simple: Singlish is colloquial Singaporean English. I am sure you can google more about this specific dialect or if you want to learn more Singlish words.

Best regards,
Andrey Kostenko
