Hi there! We have an ad below, my own input for this issue being confined to the right usage of seem when it means to appear to be or have the look of being. Never accept she seems that she is poor as grammatically correct! Use she seems (to be) poor or it seems that she is poor instead. But the wrong version sounds a bit odd indeed, and not many of you would be mistaken there - someone just wrote that to me a while ago.  A more common problem is when people do their best to avoid constructions that are inherently and chronically English. An example that comes to mind is  can't seem to = appear unable to. Here seem follows can and is followed by an infinitive. The common meaning would normally be explained with to appear to one's own opinion or mind, give/have the impression, think, and can be easily grasped from the examples that follow.

I can't seem to learn these Chinese characters. I could not seem to find the courage to fly free. He could not seem to sleep or rest for fear that some danger would come from which he would have to flee. But Vasilissa could not seem to understand how Baba Yaga meant her to sit. I showed her the letter, but she looked confused and could not seem to understand it, so I had to explain. Her own body was shaking, she could not seem to stop it. It was entirely against her will and utterly ridiculous, but she could not seem to stop doing it. I can't seem to think of that movie title. Never object to what is widely used by those using it naturally! Watch (listen) and learn from them. As usual, a useful link completes this issue.
