Hello,

I am looking for advice on maximizing my performance when sitting an IELTS test. I believe there are those few people among all 30,000+ listers who can and will help me with my plan to get the test done. Below are two relevant messages (names will not be disclosed) :

Are you still available for a discussion? If yes, I'd like a bit more information about possible pitfalls an IELTS test may create for those with near excellent English usage. I need a score of no less than 6 in each band and overall average greater than six. I think it's what everyone would like to get. You'll probably agree with me that people knowing English deeply enough in general have less chances to get what they need...I will be grateful for a sort of discussion that will probably help me get what I need. If you're comfortable enough, I suggest we use English. Thanks

I am afraid I don't remember much about IELTS. I guess the test has changed since I compiled my comments, it's been a while. Your written English looks perfect and if your aural skills are as formidable I don't envision any problems in obtaining impressive score. I would venture to say you can easily get 8 and even 9. Continue your Reading drills if you feel you need more training. Keep in mind that this part checks one's ability to follow instructions. Aim at fast reactions in Listening rather than total comprehension of the material thrown your way. Don't strive for perfection in Writing, preserve your energy for Reading and Speaking. Don't forget to smile at the interview, you have to show your approaching skills . It doesn't look like you need to polish your language for IELTS. There is not much to talk about really..Just go and try. Good luck

The above two messages were written by people with approximately equal command of English. One distinguishing factor is that only one of them can be officially recognized as a good English user. I want to remove this inconsistency. I believe the time has come to see if subscribers to this ezine can prove to be helpful to its creater. I would be grateful for any advice regarding passing an EILTS test with acceptable scores. As with any other similar exam, the problem with IELTS is that they first test for skills and only then for a true knowledge of English. The corollary is that one should try to identify and develop such skills. The purpose of this message is to locate those who can potentially be of help with respect to the above issue. If you are such a lister, please contact me at thankssomuch@mail15.com, using English or Russian. Thank you very much indeed.

Warmly,
Andrey Kostenko
